Hey guys need your help in choosing the model to get. I love the new z06 but the dealerships are charging way over MSRP for them.

So now I am choosing between a 2002 zo6 with 500 miles on it or a new 2006 corvette coupe. The z06 with 500 miles and is basically brand new and is selling around 37k but the factory warranty on the car runs out in a few months so I would have to invest in a extended 2-3 year warranty.

I see that their are some good deals on the 06 vette but I really love the styling better on the 02 z06 over the new 06 vette. Do you think 37 k for a 02 zo6 with 500 miles is worth buying over leasing a new 06 vette coupe thoughts??

Drew,
Welcome to the CAC.
I would get a lightly used 2002 Z06 over a brand new C6 without any hesitation- BUT, I am a person who keeps cars for a long time. How long do you usually keep a car? What is the deal on the lease of the C6?

You won't take nearly as much as a depreciation hit when you drive the 02 off the lot, and the refinements of the C6 aren't worth the approx 15k (or more) difference in price (if you were buying).

37k seems like a big premium to pay for the 500 miles. You could probably shop around and find one with under 20k miles (still, very low mileage) for a much better price (probably very low 30s, or lower). I would be a little more comfortable with a car that had been driven a little more than 500 miles in 3-4 years.

Getting an extended warranty is a good idea. Bear in mind that on the 02, since the factory warranty will have expired, you won't be able to go with a GMPP warranty. How about a used 03 Z?

Tammy and I both drive 2002 Z06's. Naturally, we will suggest the Z06.

The Z06 is quicker in the 1/4 mile (stock to stock) and will perform better as a performance car. The C6 is more refined, and almost as quick. The Z06 is fixed roof; no open air driving. The C6 has a targa top (or convertible). It just depends on which of those car types appeals to you more.

Drew - Welcome to the :CAC

Have ya thought of purchasing/looking for a used 2006 ZO6, I've seen some starting to show up on e-bay already.

Enjoy you hunt and let us know what ya end up with!

Later . . . . . .

I bought a 2005 C6 with only 9k for only $5k more than the C5 you are looking at for $37k. The C5's are taking a big drop in value and will continue to take a big drop. If you take a 2002 with only 500 miles and put it away for an investment that is one thing, if you are going to drive it then it is totally another thing. If you want a driver go for a one year old C6.

37k is alot for a 2002 plus I would have to buy an extended warranty and yes I am paying a premium for it. Problem is if I buy it I will lose a lot more than if I was to buy one that has 10,000 miles at like 33k. I've always loved the older z06 bodies better. I guess the c6 is a better investment but I just don't love the body style as much as the c5 z06. I really need to test drive the c6 and make a decision. Any changes between 05 and 06 c6?

There were a number of refinements from C5 to C6.
A lot of cool stuff like XM and onstar systems, keyless ignition...improved cupholders! And more...I guess the best thing to do is to check out the C6 model center here.

A test drive would definitely be called for here.

Drewcorvette,

Are you the Drew Corvette just down the road from South Riding? If you are I would be happy to show you and give you a ride in my C6.

Kerry

I strongly recommend you shop the C5 Z06. I think there are special sites for Z06vettes....

I think you can get a much better deal on C5 Z06's.

I think 30 grand is a more realistic price. (give or take a few bucks and miles)

Of course there are C6 coupes with six speeds going for 40 grand and a few miles...

Not a bad choice either.

If I were starting without a corvette right now? I'd probably go for the latest and greatest C6 Z06 even at 66 grand for a no option car.

Thats what I would do. I hope you don't mind my honest opinion..

Go for the C6 Z if thats what you really want. Keep it an extra year or so if you need to rationalize it...

GOod luck and all are great choices.
