I drive about 25 miles to work and back daily. There are no problems when moving. When stopped, either at a light or in my garage, there are noticeable odors coming into the cabin. It is not as bad when the heater/AC is off. There are no external noises to suggest an exhaust problem and there are no excess odors in the engine compartment. This problem started about a month ago. I have 126,000 miles on it. I've not had headaches to suggest a slow CO exposure (carbon monoxide). Any ideas??

Could it possibly be the Rosarita Refries you have been consuming? :D When your AC is running is it draining out the excess moisture on the ground? Sometimes the drain tube gets plugged and the water will collect and maybe that could be adding the odors. It can also get so bad it will flood the passenger foot well and get into the high priced electronics. Almost had that happen to me once but my wife heard this gurgling sound every time we went around the corner and that was when I noticed the drain was plugged. Put it up on a rack and reached up and poked something up the tube and got drenched as all the accumulated water came pouring out.

GM makes a product that you spray in the cowl air induction area with the AC set on taking in outside air not on recirculation. Then there are the udders that should be checked to see if they are full of junk and wet and stinking.......

I think there is one on the other side of the car also that may have more to do with bringing odors into the car........

If it smells like combustion fumes, maybe the Cats are not working. That could explain the smell if the smell is more like a gasoline.

PS: Pull your codes and post anything.

Exhaust leak or running rich

If you have fumes only with a fan running what is happening most likely you have an exhaust leak. Leaking and it is sucking it in from the cowl intake for your recirculating air. Or you are running rich and when sitting you can smell if more. If so you may have a dirty air Cleaner or possibly a stuck shut EGR Valve. Tune it up lately. With 128000 leaks can occur in the exhaust easily.
