With 80 miles on the odometer I went back to the dealership and asked, among other things, why the car seemed reluctant to take off when the clutch and engine became engaged. Unless I provided a lot of throttle or feathered the clutch, the car shook as though it might stall and as the video promised produced an incredible rattling noise. The general manager said they never looked at Corvettes until they had at least 500 miles, the rattle was normal and if there was a problem the cars computer system would let me know.
With 275 miles on the odometer, the engine quit at the end of an off ramp 3 miles from work. I limped in with warnings stating “engine operating at reduced power”. Later that day I watched, along with many others, my car being loaded onto a tow truck headed back to the dealership in Tysons Corner Va. In my immediate parking area at work, there is an AMG E55, BMW M3, AMG SL55 a Saab convertible and several Accura’s and assorted SUV’s. It was painful, the lone American car owner, to walk back into the office with all the “I told you so” glances.
The dealership called me late afternoon and announced they had put a new Throttle Actuator Control on the car and it was fixed. When I picked the car up, I felt it still had poor low-end power, especially noticeable at take off. But also noticeable at lower RPM shifts too. The service manager rode with me and said the cars performance was typical of other Corvettes. He did not have another manual transmission Corvette on the lot, other than Z 06’s, for me to drive and compare.
A week later I did get the chance to drive another manual transmission Corvette, and the difference was phenomenal. Immediately I knew that my Corvette had never operated correctly. Now here’s what puzzles me, The shop foreman hooked up a diagnostic reader under my dash and rode with me for several miles. He stated nothing showed up in the diagnostics that indicated any problems existed. He also said that there were no adjustments on the car, so the best he could do would be to start putting new parts, clutch, transmission etc… ect… until the problem was solved????????
1.Any ideas on why the car performs so poorly at low RPM’s, but otherwise seems Ok?
2. A brand new 52K Corvette that has never run correctly and the earliest my purchasing dealership would schedule the car back to be seen by a Corvette technician was one week later! That, and the fact that they did not correctly fix it after it was towed plus a shop foreman’s repair strategy of “well keep putting new parts on it until it is fixed” makes me not want to go back to that “car mill” in Tysons Corner. Anyone have a recommendation where I might take my car to have warranty repair work performed in the Northern Virginia area?
