i am thinking of a 03 vert are there any known problems.

I think the biggest might be....

the permanent smile etched on your face every time you drive!

Well said! lol

Hi 72Vettetoronto,
I'll duck now to avoid the convertable fans flames.
The coupe has a -very- easily removable roof. If the weather is nice enough my Vette goes topless. If the weather turns (which it does alot), the top goes back on. If fact, I put to top back on while listening to a neighbor talk about his Lincoln Zephyr. I'll guess your weather is alot like mine. As fine the vert may be, replacing the cloth is a female dog, so may be putting it up and down. Be happy to drive by some day and show you.

Not being able to lower the roof every time you drive it!

no problems as far as I know.....

but I can't let familyman's comment slide by :( First of all, I would expect my cloth top to last a minimum of 15 yrs, no worries there. Second, familyman has obviously never raised or lowered the top on a C5. On average, I'm guessing it takes me 15-20 seconds either way. Probably do it in less than 10 seconds if I was in a real hurry. I've even done it at a stop lights without getting out of my seat :D

It actually takes a bit longer to remove the top on a coupe and put it in the rear than it does to tilt the conv. top in it's place. I've got 47K on my 1999 Conv. and the top is still in excellent shape. The conv. was built on it's own platform and it shows. No sqeeks or rattles and gives the same solid feel the coupe does. I'm a coupe man unless it's a C5.

Drop Top

Toronto,

This is my third Corvette convertible (65, 67,01) and the C5 is the best one ever. Top can be put up or down in under 30 seconds. The fit is tight with no wind noise. Great car - looks evil - top up or down.

new vert

o.k. i'm convinced. now, what colour? i will not get black. no colour is nicer but way to hard to keep clean.

the only major probelm is where the top rubs on the paint and where it rubs through the clear coat and paint.

02' Torch Red Vert.................its nothing but a party!:bang :bang :bang

We have the M. Yellow convertible. We love every aspect of it. My wife and I can have the top down in less than 10 seconds. Get the yellow it looks awsome with the top down.

Hi Brett and 72VETTETORONTO,
To 72) Go ride. Hope to see you on the QEW or I-90. Don't forget to wave.
To Brett) Back when I was a much younger man I considered getting a convertable. A car friend (major NASCAR) asked me a very important question: how cold do you want to be in your car? I won't argue the excellent HVAC in the Vette, but the hardtop feels warmer. BTW, yes, I have driven my Vette during the winter where cold and snow reign. I learned my lesson and keep the Buick for the winter.

Damn it!

You made my Tripleblack cry! :(

How could you!!

The wind noise in the coupe with the top out is unbearable at highway speeds. You can still carry on a converstation in the vert. ;)

And, of course, torch red 6-speed. :D

I just traded my 96 coupe for a 98 convertible..

and I have had the top down on the 98 more already than I had the top out in the 96 all the years I owned it. It's so easy to put the top down I can do it quickly, and without breaking a nail!!

As for colors, I love that new graphite color that came out this year to replace pewter...subtle but sexy!!!

Whichever you choose, congratulations!!!!

Pretty in Pewter

Lauren,

Congradulations on your recent purchase of the 98 convertible. That color is one of my favorites. And yes the tops are easy to raise and lower. Unfortunately where I live the season is very short. But when the conditions are right - what a blast to drive with the top down. Good luck with your new car.

TIME FOR MY TWO CENTS.........
There's noting like a Magnetic Red body with a tan top!!!!!!
I owned a 98 coupe before this convertible, and it's much quicker to take down the top on my vert then it was to take off and stow the top on my coupe. And there is no feeling like cruising down the highway with your top down. Just my opinion.
