I'm contemplating on purchasing a 2004 Convertible, Blue Commemorative Edition. The dealer so far has not been the easiest to deal with, but I want the car. They sell mostly trucks and suburbans and don’t seem very interested – they haven’t kept the car clean and it has minor scratches and interior scuff marks. It needs a good home. So a couple of questions on buying techniques for the closeout year on Corvettes

1. Is $500 over invoice a good price or what would be a good deal this time of year?

2. The car in question has just over one thousand miles, should they knock off a few bucks for that and how much?

Thanks for any opinions.

Cadmando,
C5s are coming down rapidly in price as a result of the fact that the C6 is being ushered onto the scene. I've read stories about how far/fast they've come down, and I think $500 over invoice would be fair- provided they SHOW YOU the invoice.

Good luck with your negotiations- I agree, every Corvette deserves a good home.

Is this a new car or a used car? 1000 miles seems like alot of demo miles. Price is fair for a new car depending on the scratches and scuffs you mention. Good luck!

I think Monica at Maxie Price still has a lot of them(new '04's...close to 0 milage...) and you can get at least $10,500 off MSRP which is way under invoice...and try Kerbecks also...:upthumbs

I agree with 04 Torch Red, there are plenty of them out there brand new for 10k-11k off the sticker. A neighbor just bought a commemrative vert back in July from a Louisville dealer for $12k off the sticker.

I think you guys are talking apples and oranges here. $500 over invoice is $500 over what the car cost the dealer. $10,000 off MSRP is another animal.

Which deal is best has to be figured out.

I just bought my Commorative Coupe and the dealer had a CE convertible on the show room floor. BEAUTIFUL car, would have bought it, but it is an automatic. Dealership is Reliable Chevrolet "The Big Lot" in Springfield, Mo.. Rough guesstimate is I paid roughly $4500 BELOW INVOICE for the car. Talk to Ozark Nunez or Chuck Denny at 417-887-5800. Tell them Mike Kennedy who bought the Commemorative Coupe on the 3rd of Sept sent you. I know that is quite a ways away, but maybe a local dealer at your end can work a dealer trade with them or Reliable could deliver it to a local dealer near you. I didn't check out the milage on the car, but my CE has a build date of January 13 and only had 54 miles on it when I left the lot on Sep 3rd. I'm sure the vert is probably close to that. Good luck hunting! :D

Hey, even if you have to fly into Springfield, MO and drive it back...what a great Vette adventure!

My first test drive of the car was after I took delivery! Spent another day in the Springfield area with my girlfriend before driving back down to Little Rock. I didn't go up there to buy a Corvette, actually it was to see the new Porsche 997. While there, I looked at and almost bought a '94 Lotus Esprite, two Ferrari 328s-forgot the years, a 2002 Boxster, a Porsche 911 (993) cabriolet, 911 turbo (930), an Acura NSX, and looked at a Lamborghini Gallardo-waaaay out of my price range though. Didn't look at buying them all of course. Just had my pick of them. Then I went to look at the C6 and well, the rest is history. :D

Remember! Dealer invoice is not dealer cost. If the dealer "shows" you the invoice make sure it has the GM logo and delivery address on it or it is not the invoice. Subract any dealer incentives, holdbacks and dealer flooring assistance. Also subtract any fees such as delivery or destination charges. Take 5% of this subtotal. Add any fees such as delivery charges back in for final total. You can then offer less than this and if necessary work your way up to 5% over cost but not more. Do not let the dealer keep any rebate!!!!

Hanging chads, pregnant chads, swinging chads, dripping chads ... ;LOL

You should be able to get the dealer cost at www.edmunds.com.No matter what the dealer tells you, with 1000 miles it is NOT a new car. I had a dealer once try to tell me that one with 8000 miles was a "new" car. :(

When you guys are quoting 10,11,12K off MSRP are you including the $3K rebate in that or not?

TIA

My deal included $3000 in rebates, $3200 in cash back, plus additional discounts. :D Depends on how bad the dealer wants to sell the car as to what they are willing to do. Find a dealer that has an imagination, and there's no telling what they can do to make the numbers work for you. ;)
