I have been experimenting with various oils over the past couple years - not synthetics. Oil only gets changed once a year due tho number of miles. I was originally using 10w40 then went to 30 then to 20w50 which is what I am currently using. I went to 20w50 because of earlier engine temp challenges which are now gone. I have not tried 5w30 or 10w30 yet however I feel that the 20w50 is probably too heavy and that either the 10w30 or 5w30 would be a better choice. My 427/425 has hydraulic lifters and they seem to be a bit noisy for too long a period of time with the 20w 50. I am thinking the 5w30 might be a good choice because of the lifters. What do you folks think.

I think you should borrow me your car and I will find out for you ;)

I run 10w30 regular oil in my 454... whatever is on sale of the regular brands. I have Hydraulic roller rockers as well. I usually only change twice a year with 2000-2500 miles on the car.

Just my opinion but I would run the 20W50 in the heat of the summer and the 10W40 for the rest of the year. Since you only change oil annually my question would be did you have noisey lifters with the 10w40 on startup? If not I'd go back to that.
