I have 2008 Base 3LR manual and have experienced a 2nd gear grind when cold. Is there a fix for this problem? I have heard some people have switched their transmission fluid to some other synthetic fluid and eliminated it.

I use Redline ATF D4 in my vehicle, and it made a noticeable (but not huge) difference in shift quality. Also make sure that your shifter adjustment is done properly, I check mine every year to be sure, if it is out of adjustment the shift quality will be poor and possibly damage your transmission. Good luck with it.

1) Make sure the shifter is adjusted per the Service Manual
2) Make sure the clutch hydraulic system is bled and working properly.
3) Change the lube to either Red Line D4 or Driven STF

If, after taking those actions, the 2nd gear grind continues, overhaul or replace the transmission.

HI there,

You have not listed the mileage and/or if it is track driven, so theory is kind of a waste of your time.

But in truth, I would agree with adjusting the shifter assembly FIRST.

What is your mileage?

Allthebest, Paul
