Guys which do you think would provide greater power on the car? Im looking at a 3" B&B system from an LT4 that I was thinking about fitting to my car. Im also thinking about the TPIS Bigmouth base intake and AFPR.

What do you think? Price is going to be comparible on both maybe a little more on the exhaust. I waiting to find out.

BIG MOUTH

I would start with the big mouth intake base first, as for the original intake just dont let air flow all that well. you will be
very happy with just that start.

B&B here I come :D ps I didnt' win the bigmouth on ebay

Sam, thanks for your call. It helped a bunch and was nice to chat with you. :beer

Anytime !:m

I doubt it. After talking to Sam yesterday I learned that the upgraded wastegate springs were part of the wonderbar package. Im 100% sure my car did not get these springs. Im going to call Callaway this coming week and see whats up. My current wastegates wouldn't be able to hold the boost down enough if I put the new exhaust on. :(

But we have dyno days here in FL all the time....so that will be a good excuse to go dyno again. ;)

How do you get your car dyno tested? Does it put any excessive wear on the engine/transmission?

Do you remember seeing the vid of that Grand National being tested? Was that normal?

You can put your car on a chassis dyno and it will measure the hp at the rear wheels. www.dynojet.com

It won't hurt your car anymore than jumping on it on the highway.

I'm organizing a Dynojet meeting in about 6 weeks.
6 corvette's and just hear the differend engine taking it to the max is just fantasic. Only problem for you... it's in Holland :)
I've dyno-ed my vette in `02 and would recomment it to everybody!

No harm to the engine and you say where the limit is.

Look in your local Telephone book under "Performance shops" in the AUTO Section - or ask a fellow Club member or local hot rodder where a dyno is...

Generally the cost is about 75 bucks for 3 "pulls" to get a ""baseline" horsepower / torque readout and they will give you a nice graph as well.

Not really any other wear on a car as opposed to just flat out "flooring it"

If I recall, you mentioned your Callaway to be an automatic - Not a huge deal but sometimes on a dyno, they will kick "out" of 3rd gear (that is the gear you will dyno in - Drive gear) and you may have a huge "peaky" power curve... You would still at least know your max power if that was not controlled by the operator...

Hope this helps :m

Thanks guys! Great info. I've got alot to learn, but its all very interesting to me. Now, one more question.... :) The HP/Torque curves and dyno testing that Callaway provided with the car, is that measured at the wheels? And the "400" (of SNAT 400 on the engine plate) is that supposedly the engine output, or at the wheels?

The graph supplied w/ the car is the engine output at the flywheel - expect somewhat lower numbers on a "chassi dyno" due to driveline losses caused by the transmission, differential, etc...

enjoy :m

That's what I expected, I guess. What do you think is a good estimate of HP loss from flywheel to the rear wheels? 10%?

10% would be pretty optimistic. Most people seem to agree on about 15 -16% driveline lose on a car with the ZF6 manual transmission. More like 20 - 22% with an automatic.

Surf - Searching through my "archives" I came across an old "shootout" test of intakes - the short version of this story is, the AZ Speed & Marine intake made the most power. It was the BIG runners and a base that had been "Extrude Honed" and also had a 58mm TB.

The extrude hone process was one that worked well on stock pieces as well as the modded parts.

FWIW, The LPE "BOX" didn't finish near the top :eek

(but that wouldn't fit anyways...)

Surf, maybe you could look into doing the extrude process to your stock parts????????

Thanks for the info! :)
