Back in January of this year I purchased an 03 from a local dealer. The car was sold to me with new tires all around. I noticed that both rear tires (only) had the number '300' painted on them in one inch yellow paint. They are Goodyear Eagle F1 EMTs, but they do not make much noise at all. In fact, I could never understand why everyone complains about the Goodyear tires until I recently got in my father's 2001 Vette with the Eagle F1 EMTs and his tires are so loud it is hard to carry on a conversation.

Here is my question; After only five thousand miles, the rear tires are almost ready to be replaced due to tread wear, but the fronts show little wear. I maintain 30lbs cold pressure in all tires. Is anyone familiar with what the "300" means? Could this be a test tire by Goodyear? A softer rubber they are researching? I do not race or drive excessively hard. Any ideas?

Goodyear would not normally release test tires to the public through dealers. If you could PM me the the complete DOT numbers I could check them out for you. My rear tires always wear faster-must be a Corvette thing?......
