ANYONE OUT THERE RUNNING A 383 WITH THE STOCK 700R4?
I HAVE HEARD THAT STRONGER INTERNAL PARTS ARE REQUIRED FOR IT TO WITHSTAND THE INCREASE IN TORQUE. IF SO, AT WHAT LEVEL OF TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER DOES IT BECOME NESSESARY? IF I DECIDE TO GO WITH A 383 IN THE FUTURE I WOULD WANT TO KNOW THIS IN ADVANCE. THANKS.
:D

You will need the transmission beefed up if you want it to live a long time.

Upgraded soft parts AND hard parts (usually they only upgrade the softies), and a tranny cooler is a MUST. Shift kit is optional, theyre advertised as being better for the tranny.

A higher stall converter, though not necessary if this is an 86 (which has ~2000rpm stall already), would really let you roast the tires.

The 700r4 will go whenever it feels like if you dont do these things. It may last 20K, it may not last 2K. Its just one of those things that breaks when it decides to.

If youre talking about a serious monster engine, like Superram intake with good big cam, you may want to get ahold of Art Carr or Pro-built and have them build you a tranny.

Thanks Vader. I figured it would not hold up. When I do go for the 383 it will be a serious 383. Well over 400hp and tq. At least I now know to expect trany upgrades as well. Thanks again.:D
