Hi all, I have a 96 ce with the lt-4, I know the rear end is a 3.42, but was thinking of bumping up to the 4.11's, I figure with the six speed it shouldn't hurt gas milage on the long hauls. Is anyone here running this gear, and if so how do you like them? Any ideas on price of getting them installed? Thanks

With the ZF six-speed you should be just fine with 4.11:1 gears. At least that's what I've been told by a few owners; maybe it won't suit you as well.

Take a look in our TOOLBOX for some calculators to help you decide if you can live with the rpm generated by the gear ratios. Bear in mind you'll need to know your overall tire height. ;)

Actually they are 3:45's (but what is .03 in the scheme of things :))

I'd like to do the same w/ my LT4. I hear it is by far the best bang for the buck.
Keep in mind (from what I've heard) you are looking at a grand or more.

In addition, BE AWARE that you stand a very real possibility of gear noise in the rear... the lower the ratio, the more the gearset is apt to be noisy. This is due to the smaller pinion surface making a perfect pattern difficult to achieve. When I do ring and pinion swaps with ratios above 3.73, I make no guarantees of perfectly quiet operation for just this reason. Just be aware...

4.11 will work just fine. I even have a 4.56 in my 62. No noise problems if you use new parts and can set it up correctly, it will be quiet as a mouse. ;)

thanks for the info, I wouldn't be worried about noise in the rear end, I kinda like noises, I have a gear drive on my nova and love the whine. I really don't drive the car unless it's sunny out, I bought it for a fun weekend driver.

There is a very long thread, originating from the SF Bay area, about gear noise with 4.11s.

You have a dana 44 and you sit on the rearend ,noise or a clunk. That has been my experience unless the rear is setup by an expert on corvette only.
