Placing a 412ci small block(9.25-1 cr,2.02 proline heads,crane powermax 2050
cam 216in./228ex.@.05, edlebrock egr man., quadrajet) in a 78 vette w/ 350
THM. Any suggestions as to what stall speed converter would work best? My
engine builder says the engine has so much low end torque that it doesn't
matter much. He did say I could go with a 1800-2000 stall speed.
The car will be used primarily on the street, occasionally I'll want to try an autocrosss. The present rear I would guess has an approximately 3.30-1, close to that anyway. Shift points at 4000-4500 rpm, never more than 5500. Does that help?

My converter experience

I was running a 2300 stall converter (advertised) behind my 406ci in my 79 which makes about 450hp and loads of torque. I estimate the actual stall speed to be maybe 2500 - 2600 rpm with that amount of torque. It seemed to work well with my Fastburn heads, cam (230 int & 236 exh @.050) and 3.55 rear. I was able to get down the track in 12.8 sec on street tires and the stall was not so high that it was slipping at highway cruise rpms.

I have removed the automatic and am waiting for my 5speed to be delivered so would be happy to sell the torque converter to anyone interested. I think it's a B&M Holeshot or similar. I'll have to check my paperwork if someone is interested.

Regards, Phil
