Is a 427 auto eng. the same as a 427 truck eng. ? I thought I saw somewhere that the truck had a longer stroke and had a taller deck.Maybe even an extra ring per cylinder. I'm sure someone here knows. Thanks much.

Truck blocks are known as tall deck blocks. These are trucks larger than 1 ton C30s . This applys to 366, 427 and 454 truck big blocks. Bore and stroke for std. and tall deck 427s are the same but pistons are different (also very low compression) and rods may be longer. I don't remember right now. Some race engine builders use tall deck blocks for specific applications. Performance parts are available for tall decks as well. I know Hot Rod Magazine and others have had articles before on building a tall deck.

I wouldn't pass one up if it were the right price but I would check the aftermarket for availability and price of the parts I want to use before investing any money. It may be cheaper to look for a passenger car/light truck core and build that.
