Hello
Has someone installed a 4L80E (six speed version) on C3 or C4 :confused???
Thanks for info about it.

I don't know about swaps with the 4L80E, I haven't seen any. I think on reason is, it does require a computer to function properly and those aren't cheap. They seem to range from about $750 to around $1100. Of course that's on top of the trans and torque converter cost. Plus the controller should be programmed for your specific application, and that can be a challange. Most guys have gone to a 2004R or 700R4, as they can be built to handle most engines that are on the street and although not six speeds, they have good gear ratios and really good overdrives. Your trans can be improved if you've added alot of power to your engine, or want better shifting etc..

200-4 trans

About how much does one of these 200-4 trans cost? Is it really worth the cost? Very interested. Does anyone have a used 200-4 tranny for sale?

The 4L80E is a four-speed automatic based on the old Turbo Hydra-matic 400 three-speed.

It's pretty tough to put a 4L80E into a C2, 3 or 4. Major modification to the tunnel is required.

You mentioned a "six-speed". The only six-speed auto which would even come close to fitting is the unit used in the 2010 Camaro and in the newest full-sized pickups. I believe this is the 6L80 and the 6L90. Both may be larger than even the 4L80E.

If you have an 82, you already have a 700R4, the early version of the 4L60.

I think they're worth it, that's why I put one in. The gearing is spaced really well (about the same as the 350) and you get the overdrive which is a real help at highway speeds. When some of our cars where built the speed limit was 55 and the TH350 was fine for cruising at those speeds. But now, you've got 70-75MPH limits which means you're usually running around 80. That really stretchs a TH350 or 400 in my opinion.

As for cost, they're like anything else, if you buy one, you can spend as much as you want, but they aren't that expensive to build. You can get cores for the 200 really cheap, I got mine for $40. If all the hard parts are in good shape and you don't need to really beef it up because you're running high hp or torque, I'd suspect you could build one for about $350 plus the cost of a torque converter if you do it yourself. If you want to build one I'd suggest getting the ATSG (https://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/54400B.html). It'll show you what you can expect.
