I am trying to find a gas tank for my 54. Anyone know why my '69 Chev parts book calls for 53 to 62 to use the same fuel tank (#3796030), but the repop tanks are listed as 56 usage, or the vented ones for 57 to 62? I have written to the tank mfgrs & they don't even know!

Call Dave Ferguson

Dave Ferguson is chief NCRS 53-55 team leader and also has restored ( body off) many 53 thru 57 Corvettes. His e-mail is Davejanferg@aol.com

A really great guy. I have his phone also if his e-mail does not work.

I never owned a 54, but I think the tank is the same as the 57-62 unit. Now I am curious as to why?? Please post an answer when you find out.

Probably because that tank (6030) would "service", as a functional replacement, any '53-'62 Corvette; service applications are frequently consolidated to reduce Service inventory complexity. From a pure correct/restoration perspective, there were several different production tanks from '53-'62 due to venting/baffling differences, but the Service tank could be adapted to any of them and be functional.
