57 big brakes

Does anyone know a lot about the 57 Big Brakes and Heavy Duty Suspension? Pretty sure it has Big Brakes because of the finned drums and vented backing plates, but not sure about the Heavy Duty Suspension. The car was reportedly raced with back in the 70's and has been in a quonset for 30 years.

Heavy duty brakes and suspension was all one option, RPO684. It was made available around April of '57. It is possible that someone added the brake parts to a non 684 car for racing though. What is the number of your car? We can figure out the build date from there.

There are some interesting differences on big brake cars. As Tom has suggested, let him/me know the serial number. I have a friend who has a rather comprehensive database of 56-7s and he might be able to help.

That's good to hear, The VIN is E57S100818. yea low VIN #. Not number 1 but good enough for me. Please let me know what you can about it as the history is non existent at this point.

The final 1957 serial number for Oct '56 was 580 and for November was 1070. It looks like your car was built around the middle of November 1956. That would be much too early to have had RPO 684.
