So some folks ask me why I put some much energey into building a project with in a year. Well my biggest fear that if I dont I may nevver finish it.

I have seen at least 4 of these project go on ebay since last september.

In the guys description it says over 50,000 invested .I belive it,but that car has a looong way to go but belive me the money go fast on these things.

It sure looks link a SR111 frame but some of the things look alittle different

motor mounts, trans mount, upper a arm mounts, and the entire rear end area as all of the SR111 frames I have seen use coil overs for the rear not the composite spring.

Some one thinking of one of these project this might be a good jump in point for you if you can get it for the right price.

Larry,

That sure looks like one of Mike's chassis. but I can't understand why someone would want to use the leaf in the rear instead of the coilovers, except to save money. Did you notice that he has made no provisions for any bumper mounting?
That is strange, The chassis is already painted, and you would have to do a bunch of welding on it to add the mounting! I think that he is going to have a hard time getting his opening bid. There is still another $30K or so to put in that car with paint, upholstery, chrome work, and all the bits and pieces. If he has $50k in that, then he must have paid to have a lot of the work done, or he overpaid for the C1 that he started with. It is allways hard to get good money on an un-completed project, since you don't truly know what you are getting into until you start working on it. As a consequence, these type of unfinished projects usually sell at a pretty good discount.

I wonder why they primered over the VIN tag?

If you look at the close ups of any of the primered areas it seems they just primmed over ever thing with no prep in sanding or cleaning things up.They may have just wanted to car to look cleaned up

Yup I noticed that and also I feel its wishfull thinking, that he will be able to do the steering column with out the extra support welded to the frame.

Mike had explained most folks are not doing the bumper supports ,he said most guys are just hanging the bumpers on the glass

seems to me that he could have offered some type of brackets to go with the frame.....Art Morrison frames come with the bumper brackets all set to be attached to.......maybe I expect too much.....

Larry,

Prior to 58, that is exactly where the bumpers mounted anyway! I think that hanging the front bumpers on a post-58 car would be more trouble than just welding supports. Even if Mike welded on front mounts, you still have to slice and dice the original brackets to make them work, so it is just as easy to design the entire mounting system from scratch anyway. You could hang the rears from the 'glass, but I would rather go to the frame. Did you see this car on Ebay?

It is a nice looking car on the top side, but lacks the attention to detail on the underside. It is also clearly a kit car and not a real Corvette. I have seen this body and chassis before, and it lacks a lot of the subtle little items that make a real C1 body so classy! That chassis pales in comparison to the SRII one! It will be interesting to see what it will sell for, but I am suprized that it still has not met it's reserve.

Or to cover up some body woes!

John I have not seen that one but The top side is spectacular.I do see what you mean about a kit body. I love the interiour.

The bottom of the car is very interesting as it seams as if some just put an 1/8th of the amount of time they put into the interiour into detailing the underbody the entire car would be spectacular.

I realley love the looks of those earley cars if i had to do it all over I would definately get a pre 61 car.

Herb,

It is from the guy in Louisana. That design has been around for a while through at least a couple of owners. I have not heard flattering comments on the body or chassis. I understand that the previous owner left a bunch of people with undelivered cars that they had paid for when they went belly-up.
www.corvettecreations is Billy Dawson and he is a stand-up guy who builds real nice Chassis to put C4 running gear under a C1. He lives just a few miles from me and is a friend. He also builds nice turn-key cars for those who desire them.
His chassis is probably a little more builder-friendly than SRIII's chassis since you pretty much need to do no fabrication. You order it for the year you want, and he welds all the necessary brackets on and sends chassis fully powder-coated.
It is just hard to beat the SRIII chassis for the WOW factor however!

thanks John and Larry...I appreciate the comments....I will see how high it goes before I decide to make a move or not......my gal thinks I am crazy.....well...that is an understatement...ha-ha.....

Billy's site is www.corvettecorrection.com. Confusingly close. If you pull up the www.corvettecreation.com website, you'll see a body and chassis style from an outfit in Georgia, similar to the one now being sold by a guy from Louisiana on ebay from time to time. Formerly, there was a company in Mandeville, Louisana named Vette-Rod which sold this setup, that ripped off a bunch of people.

Loren,

You are absolutely correct, I can't tell you how many times I have made that same typo! Car creations is Paul Newman's company name, and I am allways transposing the names!

Mac,

Yea, I know of at least 4 people watching that auction to see how high it will go. Hell, I may even buy it myself if it goes cheap enough. One can never have enough C1 cars!
