58sdm Code 1/10/03

58-sdm Answer

FOUND IT! SDM IS A SENSING MODULE LOCATED UNDER THE HVAC CONTROLS. IT IS THE CORVETTES BLACK BOX AND HAS A BUILT IN ACCELEROMETER. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR WHEN THE AIR BAGS ARE DEPLOYED, INFORMATION IS RECORDED AND STORED IN THE "SDM". THE SDM WILL TRIGGER A CODE IF A ROCK OR FOREIGN OBJECT HITS THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. RAN OVER SOMETHING TODAY MATTER OF FACT. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT THE ROUGH INTERMITTENT IDLE WAS DUE TO A DIRTY K&N FILTER. THE DIESEL PICKUP DID NOT HELP AND WAS CHOCKING MY AIR SUPPLY.

Thanks

Yeah, I found it. I'm not going to mess with it. I found that an object hitting the car from underneath will throw a SDM code. I was traveling down the highway today and remember an object I ran over and hit the underside. Rough idle was due to a very dirty K&N filter.

Todd,

I merged these two threads together to keep the problem and solution together.
