This may sound kind of stupid. But can anyone please tell me how to get my stock shifter knob off. I took off the pattern part on top of the knob but there looks like a clip or something holding it in and i don't want to break or force anything.
Thanks Rich

With a small screwdriver remove the plastic cover in the center of the knob. Be careful not to damage the leather as you pry. THen, carefully remove the snap ring. Needle nose pliers might work here. Its a locking ring, so once you get it off, the knob will unscrew. Theres detailed instructions along with pics posted on here, or maybe one of the other vette forums, somewhere.

I replaced my shifter knob with an after-market one. I had the tuffest time getting that key removed from the knob and stick shift column. I asked tons of questions and read lots of articles and they all said what DMKOGER said below (yeah, he's right) but mine still refused to come out. I ended up using vice grips to pull at it but then the cheap metal used in that pin broke till I only had little bit of it left; but it was still secure. I had to pull out the drill and using a very small bit and drilled the key out. Just be careful while drilling if you have to go this route.
