Installing my dash pad...finally. I understand all the trimming techniques and where not to trim ie. under the windshield. However my real problem seems to be at the bottom of the dash pad. I am especially perplexed about trimming around the cowl vent lever. Does this need to be removed to allow proper trimming? Any recommendations regarding the install in general appreciated. What do you recommend for glue??
Thanks much guys.

Hi! Studiog

I am not sure of what area you are referring too. The area I had the greatest problem with was the gauge cluster area. I dry fitted everything prior to gluing and used minimal glue. I had to remove some of the foam to allow the pad to set close enough to install the dash cluster and passenger insert. Are you setting the vinyl under the windshield channel? I highly recommend that you do.

Have you found your front emblem?

Ray, I am leaving all the extra vinyl under the windshield channel. I guess I am just unfamilar with the underside of the dash pad and how it fits. I think my dash pad from Al "Wally" Knoch is fitted very well and I will have to remove only a very small amount of foam. Ray what did you use for glue? I can see that a minimum amount of glue would be sufficient. I have not gotten my front emblem yet. I have it on order at several vendors but I'm sure they will all come from the same manufacturer at the same time.

Trim the minimum you need to fit every thing.

My 62 is at the uphoulstry guy now so I cant post any pictures but somebody with a 61/62 please post some photos of how the pad lays up under the dash.

Do you have your dash cluster in yet? because once the cluster is in you can see what the cluster actually covers down in that area.I actually pulled the pad down and around the front center area and then installed the trim piece (just above the radio area and then mark it with a white crease pencil what I needed to remove.) Pretty much theat whole center section on the drivers side is removed.

remove the foam backer carefully behind where the dash cluster goes and the dash insert on the passenger side.

If it takes you 3 days to dry fit it (PERFECTLY) then so be it.NO glue should come out untill it looks perfect

You may not know it but I have no paitnence and want every thing done now.I actually left all of my glue at my work so I could not start gluing it in place on the first night I started trimming it .

Good luck

Thanks for the help Ray & Larry. I'm goimg to go and do it right now.

How did it go ? Once I convinced myself the worst that could happen was I made a mistake and had to order a new one, things went much smoother.
Larry, I trimmed her up pretty good but I still have another session to go before I'm done. I kind of got side tracked with beefing up the drive shaft tunnel with several layers of Kevlar so I don't ever see the driveshaft coming up between the seats. :)

I know there is a scattershield of sorts for this area but I didn't think it provided enough protection.
