61 Vette bell housing

Does anyone know if there is more than one bell housing that fits a 61? I believe the one that is correct is the cast #553 aluminium.These seem to be very rare and expensive and I have not been able to win one on Ebay when they occasionally show up. Is there a good substitute? It has to have the bolt holes for the clutch crank pivot. By the way is it bell housing or bellhousing?

FYI: It had a scattershield that I removed some time ago.

61 and 62 are the same. Both are aluminum and very rare and expensive as you have noted. A possible fit would be an earlier housing of cast iron. You also must have provision to bolt the starter in which the earlier ones take the same starter.

I have a 61 bellhousing I will sell. I had 2 on the shelf, a 60 and a 61. I replaced my scatter shield with one from the shelf but did not look to see which one it was. If you email me the casting numbers for the 61 I will look to see if that is the one I still have?
