"Nice" pictures :D

What I find amazing about these cars is that they run and drive! for years I thought they were no go show cars. A few years back they were at carlisle and I waited around to see them load them up. Most all of them sounded great, and the drives would punch them, spin tires ect. Really put on a show. I had camera in hand and took pics. Even got to sit in a couple of them. felt like it was a dream.

If true...

...I read a cool story once regarding the first (C2) Mako Shark of Bill Mitchell. Seems he had a real mako shark mounted and hung in his office. He wanted his car to be painted EXACTLY like the shark in his office. After each attempt by the paint team Mitchell would take the shark down from his wall and bring it to the car for comparison. Each time he kept rejecting the paint, claiming it wasn't an exact match. One night, the paint team got into his office and repainted the shark on his wall to match the car. The next day, Mitchell approved the paint! I wish I could remember in what publication I read this.

That's a true story - he went on vacation for a week, and they did the deed while he was gone. The same crew was responsible for creating the very first "Don't Even THINK About Parking Here" sign (that you see today in many of the catalogs), in the early 60's - it went on the wall in the Styling Executive Garage in front of Mitchell's parking space.

He was also into exotic Italian motorcycles - had quite a few Ducatis, Laverdas, MV Augustas and Moto Guzzis, and rode them to work occasionally in good weather. He was short and pudgy, and wore custom-made light metallic blue Bates leathers - he looked like a badly-made sausage in his tight leathers ;LOL

You had to be there....... :D

John,

Those stories you recount on occaision are just great.....don't ever stop throwing them in here.

The bit about Mitchell in leathers......what a visual;LOL
