OK group. here is my question. I'll preface it by saying I'm not trying to establish my 62 Corvette as a "numbers matching" car. I'm so far off from that it won't happen. In fact I just discovered that I have a Muncie 4 speed and not the BG T10 as was supposed to be in the 62!
That said, however, I am still trying to establish her "current identity". My question is the real axle numbers.
I have the "Corvette by the Numbers" book from Alan Colvin and it has helped me a bunch. But I'm struggling with this one.
The "stamped" code on the axle of my 62 Vette is "BK0718". According to the "book" I don't see how that fits ANY codes for Corvettes, for any years, unless the prefix letters are indicating a different plant.
The other data on the axle is: casting number 378912 which indicates late 61 and all 62 Vette posi unit. Another number is E2863. There is a large "P" on the axle which was used to designate it being a Positration unit.
So, my expert friends, anyone know what I got?
Thank you in advance.
Hal
