Well, started stripping the paint, and boy I will tell you, the story of the car becomes more and more clear. The rear quarters were flared and repaired, I knew this from seeing under the car. I intend to replace the rear quarters to make much nicer. The car was hit on the drivers side door. I am replacing the door, as the drivers door is in poor condition, and I don't want to repair it. So if anybody needs a Coupe Door, I will sell it cheap and it can be repaired. I found a mint pair of fiberglass headlight and buckets, metal ones on the car are from a 64...selling buckets complete....everything.
Since we talk about stripping the car, I though a people would like to see the work in progress. Overall the car's glass is decent. I enclosed a great shoot of the stripped back of the car.
Hope to complete the stripping this week-end. I know this once you start, don't stop or let the stripper dry, work straight through until its done....
Stripping is soaking on the front clip...
For those who never saw repaired FLARED wheels...this is what they look like when paint is removed...not a bad job, but the panels will be replaced with fresh ones to assure the best paint job for the car.
Back of car, finished preliminary stripping, you can see the factory glass.
John Sheldon removing 12 yes 12 coats of paint..... :eyerole
This is a much better view of the stripping process, taking off 12 coats of paint.
In addition, after we removed the rocker panels we found two holes drilled into the frame over 1/2 inch, not the stock holes, but ones drilled. We figured it was for side pipes that was mounted on the 63 at one time, both sides had the same holes.
Also found the hood to be original, and the front clip was SMC and about 18 years old. I will keep you advised on what else we find as we go along..
I keep on saying to myself, it will be beautiful it will be beautiful....:L
