64-67 Clone?

When I was at the Eureka Springs Vette show, I saw this very nice 64 vert, that was advertised as a 67 clone.
The price was low, especially for any mid-year vert I've ever seen, but this is obviously not original.

What changes makes this a 'clone'? What makes this car less-desirable (besides it NOT really being a 67)

I see that it has the '67 fenders and the 67 seats, and the '67 hood. Other major differences include a center console mounted parking brake (67) and cowl vent levers mounted in on the center console instead of up under the dash (64). Unless it a very clean fresh car, 28K seems kinda high. I see it has ralleye wheels too.

64 and 67 had noticbly different dash instruments and clocks - and different door panels. From the corner of the door I think I see something shiny (through the steering wheel) which tells me it has '64 door panels.

'64 frame needs modifications to accomodate a big block.

He most likely was looking for a way to advise folks that it was a 64 in 67 clothing. From what I could see he has changed the hood, fender side gills and wheels. I wonder if he went further into areas such as the brakes, etc.?

As for desirability, I guess it depends on what someone is looking for. If it has been well done it could make a great driver.

I didn't answer your 2nd question. If it doesn't bother you that the car is a mix of different years, then the only non-desirable factors to consider are:


1) resale
2) quality of work - watch out for bubba

It looks like the same car that is on e-bay this week with reserve not met at 20k; Having just spent 2 year looking to find my real 67 BB, I wouldn't give more than 20k for it. I am glad I never settled for a 'clone' - as many people suggested.

A great-looking driver would be perfect.

Mick, you said you saw this (or a very similar) vette on ebay and the reserve wasn't met at 20K? So... its possible to get into a midyear vert for 20K? (depending on the "Bubba" factor)

You ask is it possible to get into a mid-year under 20k - I didnt answer that. What I said was a) I wouldn't pay more that 20k for the car on e-bay, b) that car was on ebay and the high bid was 20k and still the reserve was not met. I think you can answer your own question with just a little shopping.
