65 carpet problem

Three years ago when I purchase my 65 nassau blue vet, I replaced the front carpet. I replaced it because it was badly stained on both the driver and passenger side near the foot area. The replacement carpet I purchased came from Zip. Since replacing the carpet, the car is kept in a climate controlled area. I drive it weekly but only on nice days and generally not more than a 1/2 hour on a Saturday or Sunday. I've only been caught in the rain once and it was only for a few minutes. Two weeks ago, I noticed that the carpet on the driver's side (again near the foot position) was becoming discolored. By the way, the carpet color is blue to match the car exterior. The discoloration is becoming more pronounced. It started sort of yellowish and now is a dark brown. Once again I going to replace the carpet but wouldn't want to do so without at least determining the source of the problem. Zip thought that the carpet may have become wet due to a teak. If this was the case, it could only be while washing the car but I've never noticed any leaking into the cab. Could heat from the exhaust or engine cause this? I did not install the heat shield under layment when I changed the carpet. Has anyone had a negative experience with Zip carpet similar to mine? Any advise will be appreciated. Bill

it is possible to have water leak in without seeing an apparent leaking.
behind each fresh air vent in the kickpanels is a drain hole. leaves and other depris fall down in that area from the wiper grills above and will clog the drain holes. when that happens the water can't drain and build s up and the carpet "wicks" it into the car.
try running a hose over the wiper grills for a minute or two and than feel the carpet by each air vent and see if it's wet.
if so remove the vents, clean out the area and make sure the drain holes are clear before replacing your carpet again.

Hi! Bill

I purchased Jewel Blue carpet from Eklers a few years back. In less than 6-months the carpet started to turn brown. I thought I had done something to cause this problem and did not follow through with the warranty. After winter storage and the start of the spring driving season the brown color or fade continued to grow. I called Ecklers and reported it. I told them when I first spotted it (6-months) and what was happening. The told me because I was a month or two past the one year warranty that they could do nothing for me.

That was three restorations ago and I have not purchased one item from Ecklers. I would call ZIP to see if there was a problem with the blue die and if any one else had reported this problem.

That's what I did first thing. They said they'd contact their supplier to determine if there had been a dye problem but that was nearly a month ago. I tried to contact the Zip rep 3 or 4 times since but he's never available and will not return my calls. I've got to assume they can't or won't assist. I'm a little surprised by Zip since I was extremely pleasant (really). I told the rep that I wasn't interested in a refund or even a replacement but just wanted to determine the problem. I certainly don't want to replace the carpet again and have it fail as did the first replacement.
