My drivers door won't open from the inside. It was working fine but for some reason, just stopped working. It opens fine using the exterior pushbutton. I removed the door panel and it looks like the inside linkage isn't moving the mechanism quite as far as the exterior pushbutton moves it. Can someone tell me what the next troubleshooting steps should be?

Sometimes you can fix that by putting two adjacent and opposite bends in the long rod that runs from the inside remote handle bellcrank back to the lever on the door latch, effectively shortening the rod, giving it greater travel at the handle end.

Hey John,
I have the door panel off. I can manually pull the rod to engage the door latch. When I pull the rod, the gear in the door latch will still not spin. the teeth in the latch will only rock back and forth. The passenger door latch spins freely when the rod is pulled. What should I try next?

John,
I bought a door repair kit containing four springs and a rivet for each door. The directions say the rivet being worn is the most likely issue. Can you explain where this rivet is and what it does?

I've never overhauled/repaired a door latch (lucky, I guess), so I'm not familiar with the latch details; photos below show a '67 latch out of the car.
