My driver door opens great from the outside but is very difficult to open from the inside. I have the door panel off and the linkage is in place, I can see the movement over at the latch. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

I just rekinked the rod between the inside knob mechanism and the latch in my passenger door and it works fine. Years ago, my drivers door required me to elongate the holes that mount the knob mechanism so I could rotate it to pull the rod sooner, and that also put the knob in the correct position in the door upholstry panel slot.

So, does this mean I need to shorten the linkage rod?

Thanks guys. I actually had two problems:

1. The linkage rod did need to be shortened. I clipped the end off and
rebent the hook that attaches to the handle lever.

2. The area of the linkage rod where it exits the hole in the door was bent
just enough to put the rod in a bind and the rod just wouldn't pull far
enough to release the door latch. Once I did some troubleshooting and
rebent the linkage rod in this area, the inside door opener now works
like new.

Thank you again,
Lee

Did you put everything back together yet? Only reason I ask is because a couple of years ago my 66 was problematic with the door latches. I purchased a 1 gallon pail of carburator cleaner, I used to get these pails to soak small engine carburators in they are sold at most auto parts stores. Anyways I took my door latch mecanism out and soaked it in the pail a couple of day to remove the 40 years of grease and paint out of it. You would be suprised what is in there. I cleaned it all up re-oiled it and now the door open up like a new car door does. I would absolutely recomend this to anybody to do as its not allot of work and the results are spectacular

Best of luck
