Is it better to recondition rear bumpers or buy new reproduction ones? Is there much difference in cost? Is there much difference is quality? Do you lose judging points? Welcome your opinion. Bill

I'm not an expert but.... I recently had my old bumpers and misc. other parts (door & window posts, etc.) rechromed and I was very happy with the quality. There is no substitute for the original parts if you already have them and you know they fit well. All the repro chrome I bought was no better than my rechomed parts and the fit was not as good as the originals. I used two different chromers... Superior Chrome & Nu-Chrome. Both did very good work but I have a preference for Nu-Chrome. Their prep work was a little better. Good Luck.
Gary

PS: Each bumper was about $200 to rechrome. I negotiated my price a bit with them to do all 4 corners at once.

Hi!

I agree with Gary; unless the bumpers are rusted or damaged beyond repair I would re-chrome. On a negative note; I have heard horror stories about poor quality chromers. Do your home work and find a quality shop.

I agree with rechroming your existing bumpers. I just received mine back from LiBrandi's in Middletown, PA. They did a fabulous job on all my chrome and my front bumpers were really badly rusted. They charge $175 per and I couldn't be more pleased. The only downside was the time it took (almost 20 weeks) but as we enter the off season, that kind of timing wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Good luck..

I agree with the others that keeping the originals is the best course of action. I say this in hindsight as I did go with reproductions before I was made aware of possible fitment problems. But they are of very nice quality and fit very well. Just lucky I guess. Each car is different.

My car is not judged for obvious reasons so I cannot answer that question.

low price?

Those prices seem really low to me. Are you getting them tripple plated?

Librandi's does most of the chrome plating for ALL "car guys" in my area (Baltimore).

They do excellent work. Todd Librandi, the owner is an honest guy. If he's busy, he'll look you right in the eye and tell you that your parts will take 3-4 months.

He won't string you along and have you calling him weekly. I like that, and plan accordingly. He's done a lot of plating for me. Chuck
