STEERING REBUILD ON 65

I JUST COMPLETED REBUILDING THE STEERING COLUMN ON MY 65 ROADSTER. I BOUGHT (NEW) EVERY SINGLE PART EXCEPT THE CONE SHAPED PIECE THAT THE SIGNAL LIGHT SWITCH AND UPPER BEARING ARE HOUSED IN. I STILL HAVE ~ 1/8" SIDE TO SIDE PLAY IN THE SHAFT/WHEEL. THE UPPER BEARING, BY DESIGN, DOESN'T OFFER MUCH SUPPORT BUT I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK NOW. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? REMEMBER EVERY PART BUT THE CONE IS NEW.

I JUST COMPLETED A REBUILD OF MY 65 ROADSTER STEERING COLUMN. I BOUGHT "ALL NEW PARTS" EXCEPT THE CONE BETWEEN THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL. MY PROBLEM IS THAT I STILL HAVE ~ 1/8" SIDE TO SIDE PLAY IN THE WHEEL. WHERE DID I GO WRONG? DO I NEED TO BUY THE CONE PIECE TO FIX THIS?

please don't yell...........
all caps in discussion forums indicates yelling :)

don't worry, I'm sure someone with knowledge on this subject will chime in eventually.

Steering

You may want to check with Dr. Rebuild at 203-366-1332. They have a part called a "steering column wedge and screw". This tightens the the directional signal housing to the column mast. See page 156 (BB) of their catalog #30. I have the part but have not rebuilt my column yet. Should be less than $12. Good luck. Jerry
