A man in Myrtle Beach, SC called me yesterday and wanted to sell me his truck. The truck, not worth saving, needs to be moved. He told me that in the late 70's he wrecked his 66 vette and took the engine out and out the engine in this truck. I have not seen it yet or even know if it turns over by hand. How would identify it as a true corvette 327? It does still have the finned valve covers, so he says. I am going to look at it tonight. I do not need the engine, I will only get it to sell to someone that needs it. How much should I offer for the engine only? I pull it. Thanks, in advance for your input. Ron

Depends..........

To someone that needs that year or date code it's worth a little more. I'm sure it needs a complete rebuild and that's not cheap. I paid $200 for my 67 327 some years back and then built it from bare block. If you have to pull it and store it, tell him you'll trade your work for the engine, no cash, see what he says but I wouldn't go very much money, not unless you have a buyer and a price to sell for. My $.02 FWIW

If it's all there you could sell it for the value of the individual components.

Guestimates:
(assume everything needs rebuild and is rebuildable)

Crank - $75
Heads - $100
Block - $150
Intake - $150
Carburetor - $200
Valve Covers - $75
Oil Pan - $150
Pulleys - $50
Air Cleaner - $50
Distributor - $40
Balancer and Timing Cover (if 8" finned) $100
Rods - $25
Bellhousing - $50

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if it is still a complete corvette motor, the ancillary stuff could being some $$$ - even in rough condition.

Ron welcome to the corvette action center, Does you forum name have anything to do with the tire place?

As for the motor.I am sure the motor would have some value to a fellow needing it for a correct style rebuild, I could not guess the value.

See if you can see what the casting number is and the stamping on the front right block is ,(right in front of the head)

Again welcome and good luck
