I know that the wheelbase on the 66 and the 76 are identical.

Has anyone heard of someone putting a C2 body on a C3 frame? Reason why I ask is that I have the opportunity to do this and wanted to know the general issues that may be involved.

I am doing this only because I have the chance to so at a very low cost and would like the chance to modify a C2 without worrying that I am killing a classic.

Please understand that I am not destroying either car...I just have a chance to take two separate cars that are only good for parts and put them together to make one. The other truth of the matter is that it will be a long time before I can afford a bonafide C2 and I would like to be able to get a "replica" of sorts and still be able to afford to run it.

Thanks!

Go for it!! Any problem that you run accross, can be fixed.

i would suggest buying a 66 frame and use parts between the two cars. Corvette Fever had a question about the same issue. the answer was too many small diffences. easier to buy a frame. plus they're not too expensive,

The rear of the 76 frame is designed for the "rubber bumper", and has the accomodations for the pistons, etc., so you'd have to graft part of the 66 frame on the back of the 76 frame. Also, I believe that the frame horns up front under the radiator are different so you'd need to graft up there too. I also believe that several of the body mounts are different.

SO...a ton of work to "cobble up" something. Better off buying a correct frame. Chuck

Agree with Chuckles, but it's not that bad....been there, done that...lot of welding, in fact we modified the front frame horns to match the 66 frame, moved the body mounts to match the 66 etc. email me for pics.

Hi George! You lost? Welcome to the CAC!! :L

76L82, I would be very careful in considering a swap like you've proposed.

It's not that the swap is impossible (anything is possible, given enough time, effort and money) but will it be a worthwhile exercise? Given what you've said, I would surmise the 66 body looks intact but it has a rotton frame whereas your 76 is whole. Don't forget the rust monster can and does eat birdcages just as readily as it eats frames and it's hard to see that kind of damage until you get the car apart.

If you buy the 66 and pull it apart only to find the birdcage is toast, you'll not be a happy camper. That being said, your chances of recouping your money by parting out the 66 aren't too bad with the way things have been selling on eBay.
