White 66 vert
I've been looking at a lot of other's pics and noticed that my 66 looks a little high all the way around. I looked at the front coils and they are the standard coils ie 7 coils vs 5 coils. I also know that they could possibly be not seated correctly in the spring perch but how would I know by looking at them? This is how I bought the car so I have no history from the previous owner as of yet. The rear I know how to fix, just put longer "jacking bolts" in and adjust it to the height that I want. The reason that I think it sits high is I can put two almost three fingers between the front fender and the tire and two fingers between the rear fender and the tire. Any comments are always appreciated... Dave..

I am pulling mine out on wensday and will take a picture of mine on a level surface.Mine I thought was high in the back after a suspention rebuild but it kinda settled in and I think has a nice stance. Some of the cars I was comparing mine to sat too low.I have some book I almost belive its my aim manual that had givien some proper measurments to work from for what was proper and I believe mine was in correct tolorences.I will post a picture of it on wensday eavining. And I will also look in my aim at that time to see where those measurement are

The height of the car as measured at the bottom of the rocker panels is posted in the AIM, and in the Chevy Rest Guide. I believe it is 7 inches. If you can't find it, ask me to look it up for you.

Thanks guys, I have not purchased an AIM yet it's on the list of things to buy... It's not really that it sits real high like a 4x4 it's just higher than a couple of ones that I know. I'll take a better pic tonight and post it the ones that I have right now are way to bright... Dave..

Here is a front wheel pic that I took this evening..

And here's the rear,

Last but not least the side view...

It's a bit hard to tell from the pic's
Car looks like it's parked on an uphill slope...
Front does seem higher than the back..

Visually, mine seems slightly higher in the rear.. than in the front.

Measured to the rocker panel though, it measures the same

Stance looks like IH2Lose

What size tires are you running? Aspect ratios will change the amount of rubber from the edge of the tim to the tread. If your tires have a smaller aspect ratio, it will give the appearance of a higher ride height.

The car is parked on a flat surface but you are right it does have a front to rear rake. I will measure the distance from the rocker panel to the ground this afternoon. Also it could be an optical dilusion b/c it has Regatta 2 on the rear and no names on the front. The aspect of the tires are 215/70/15 all the way around. I bought the car with mixmatched tires on it, I plan on putting BFG's all the way around here in the near future. I just have to take care of a few other things first ie steering wheel upper bearing/turn signals not working/etc....Dave..

I had my springs built in incorrect...which is not too difficult.

An indicator of that is that the shocks touch the spring on the inside. Correctly mounted the shock is totally free.

Also the spring should not look like touching the outer side of the frame pocket.

If this is the case jack up car slightly, put second jack under lower a arm, remove upper a-arm to spindle connection, release second jack to unload spring (take care of brake hose) until it almost falls out. then push it to the inside with all your power and pump up the jack to get some load on the spring. Reatack all stuff and you should be done. It took me about an hour to do both sides.

My 64 with 205/70's with original non rebuilt suspension, springs, bushings, etc. (59,000 miles), only new shocks, measures 7" to rocker at front and 7 & 11/16" at rear. With 6.70-15 tires it would add another 1/2" I measured from the center of the wheel spinner up to the fender lip and it was 12 & 3/8" front and 12 & 13/16" rear Using these measurements it dosen't matter what size tire you have. To my eye, it has a nice stance and height.

The original '67 factory spec for "K" (rear rocker-to-ground) was 9-1/8", and for "J" (front rocker-to-ground) it was 8-5/8" (see UPC 3 and 4 in the A.I.M. for exact points to measure), so it originally had a slight rake (1/2" difference) by design. My '67 with 205/75 radials measures on-spec at the front ("J"), and 3/8" low to spec (but still within tolerance) at the rear ("K"); it measures 8-3/4" rocker-to-ground at both front and rear points, so it's level (no rake).

My "Z" and "J" heights (also shown in UPC 3 and 4 in the A.I.M.) are also within spec; these two measurements show spring compression relative to design. Mine measures 13-1/4" at both ends from the center of the hubs to the fender lips, and looks like this:

johnz - I will guess that the AIM spec is for a dry car that may not have an interior - assembly spec. I assume the technical spec is the outcome expected. Just a guess, but a level car is what you normally get from a factory.

The A.I.M. Engineering specs for all heights noted are with the car "as shipped", which is complete, with two gallons of gas; a full fuel tank would add about 110# to the rear, which would probably get the car level (as mine is with a full tank).

Well I finally measured yesterday, sorry I've been doing honey do's and anyway. The front and rear from centerline of the spinner are 13 1/8 and 13 respectively. This week I plan on taking a closer look at the springs and how they sit in the perches. Dave..

A little added info for you side pipe people. 8 inches from the bottom of the rocker translates to 12.75 inches from the body crease at the top of the rocker/sidepipes.

My 66 has its original springs. It sits 8.25 at the front of the rockers and 8.75 at the rear - after all these years - with a full tank of gas.

I guess I'm still a little high from magicv8's post since I have side pipes and measuring from the ground up to the crease I'm almost 13" That's close enough for me. The front is still about a 1/2 to high but it's something that I can live with. Considering that I was about 1 3/4" higher in the rear than I am now. I appreciate all of the information as always. I think that a better way to compare car to car is maybe from the floor to the center of the bottom of the fender lip. I'm measuring 27" almost all the way around. Here is a look at it let me know what you think. Oh by the way I got the longer bolts from Zip while I was up there getting other parts. FYI the washers that come with them are not as large as the originals nor do the bolts have holes in them for cotterkeys... Dave
