I can't find any diagrams showing the part locations for the steering columns lower bearing - late design. When I took it apart, it looked so simple I didn't think any assembly documentation would be necessary. Wrong again....:duh

1. Do I have the parts laid out in the correct order?

2. How tight do I compress the springs when I assemble this?

Thanks,
Mike S.

By the way, I had my steering box rebuilt by Bair's www.bairs.com. These guys do really nice work. Quick turn around, good price & nice people to deal with. Thanks to this forum for recommending them.

Your photo of the column components didn't show up for me, but the photo below shows how the second-design '67 lower column parts assemble. :)

John:
Would you happen to have a picture of the first design. 'Old Blue' is SN 932 so it should be different than above.
My column has to come out this spring because of bearing squeek.

No, I don't - mine have been second-design cars; the Long Island catalog has an exploded view of both designs in Section 18. :)

Thanks John. Those are the same parts I have.

When I put this together, how do I adjust the plastic spacer & clamp so they are positioned correctly or is this not critical?

Mike

Mike -

Mine is set with about a .020" gap between the bottom end of the column tube and the plastic spacer; the shaft should rotate freely without the top end of the spacer contacting the column tube.
