I got the alternator adapter from Lectric Limited, but their 2 prong end is the same as the 2 prong end I already have feeding my alternator? How'd you get this to work. There's no way I can plug my current 2 prong plug into their adapter??? The adapter end is quite small and squarish not rectangular.

Did someone already wire my car for a 1 wire? Doubt it though.

I might be talking out my Azz, however the alternator you are using...is it a SI series or could it be a CS or AD series. The reason I ask is the the SI doesn't need an adaptor.

I saw this on the letric site...is the number on your adaptor a match?

How can I tell which it is? Here's a pic from a few months ago. It's a 42-43A alternator and the one I have now is a 63A. Other than that thy are identical. There is a regulator on the drivers side.

I looked at the diagram and it looks like you need a jumper for the regulator in order to eliminate it.

Any numbers on your regulator?

I think I understand what you are trying to get across...you want to know why you don't seem to need the adaptor harness. Correct?

Corvettes started using internal regulated alternators in 69, so your 70 is already properly wired for this style alternator. Other GM cars still used a seperate regulator in 70, this is why the adaptor harness is shown to fit 70 GM applications. just plug up what you have and it should work.

Alternators

Early GM`s from 63-72 have a remote regulator and use the small square plug in the alternator either in the back to 71 or on the side of the case in 72. After 73, the regulator was built into the alternators and use the flat plug. One identity problem is that a 72 and 73 look similar but have different plugs as the 72 is still a remote regulated style alternator and the 73 begins the internal regulated alternators. They are not interchangable with out the correct original harness. This is what appears to be present in this situation.

Looking at this diagram, you can see two items on the right with arrows pointing to them.

#1. The regulator jumper connector.
#2. The alternator jumper harness.

This kit permits the retention of the external (but now non-functioning) regulator for appearance, while using a new internally-regulated alternator.

I understand the diagram Bob. I think after this little discussion that, I either have the wrong adapter ot that my wiring is already able to accomidate a newer alternator.

The basic problem is that my present rectangular alternator plug should plug into the new adapter. I can't because the adapter recepticle is square and my plug is rectangular.

My original plug(on the right) should be square.

To fit into the adapter...here, but it doesn't.

I know nothing about C3's, Len, but did your car have an external regulator?

If so, and assuming that the regulator is gone (or by-passed), then someone has already jumped it and changed up the alternator to an internally-regulated one -- thus the new connector on your harness.
