I'm thinking I'll put a higher-stall but still lock-up converter in my '82s 700R4, but am not familiar with 700R4 vendors.
I have a pair of 8"/4500 stall converters (1-ATI/1-Transmission Specialties) for my '79 Z28; both are 'race-only', bullet-proof, and pricey ($600 each).
I'm open to suggestions for the manufacturer of this converter, which should be 'loose', must be lock-up, and HAS to be durable.
Thanks in advance, GLEN!!!!!

I would reccommend going with TCI, I have an 81 with a 700-R4 and I used the Breakaway torque converter. It is pretty smooth, except under full throttle, and it is very responsive. If you give them your specs (you fill out a form) they can match the converter that is best for your car. The webite is www.tciauto.com, the phone number is 662-224-8972.

just how 'loose' is that TCI piece? I like to use a loose converter to 'adjust' my Reaction Times at the strip. Have you been to the strip since you installed it?
