Here we go again. I have a .040 over 454. Around 550 hp with 570+ lbs of torque. OK, Now with the Holley Alum Heads and after much work on three different engine building programs (Chrysler) and my engine builder back in Detroit we all argreed to run Hooker Super comps, 2" primarys into a 3" collector and 3" all the way back with Flowmaster Super 40's.
Now the fun begins, I realize that the Super 40's don't flow (cfm) as much as some other mufflers, but, "they scavange a lot better and two different magazines did a test on the new GM 572 inch monster and from running open headers to a 3" flowmaster system, they only dropped 3 hp over the entire range.

Has anyone put a 3" system on their C-3 71 I hope and if so how did the mufflers fit?
thanks a lot
Ron

I have 3 inch all the way back but I didn't go through the existing transmission crossmember holes, I closed them up and cut half moons a little further outboard. Actually straight back from the collectors. I also run Turbo mufflers because I feel the flowmasters are too loud and without a tail pipe they lack that nice sound the mustangs make with them.

I also don't like corvette headers and would rather use camaro becuase they keep the exhuast further out from the tramission.

This is not the exhaust on the car now but it was an earlier 3 inch showing the cutouts below and outboard on the transmission cross member
