We've been working on restoring a '71, and when I took out the gas lid, there wasn't any kind of spring in there. I was expecting a spring to be in there, so when you open the gas lid it stays open on its own. Does anyone know or have a picture of what should be in there besides the lid and the frame it's attached to? Thanks!

Not sure when the spring was first used. My 69 doesn't have it but my 72 does. It was an upgrade but the older ones can be made to work good again by pinching the hinge a little.

Yes, there is a spring (#12 in scan below).

Looks like it started in 71' cost you 9 bucks for a new one.

Thanks for the help. I think I've figured out the mystery. It seems as thought the gas lid and frame are from another year, pre-1971. The little arm that attaches to the lid does not have 4 screws attaching it. It seems like it's riveted. That would explain why there's no spring, wrong year!

you can buy them springs from most vendors,it is a common problem:)
