Pull the right wheel and go in from the side with the cherry picker. Most pickers are not long enough at the lowest weight setting to go all the way in without risking popping a wheelie.
It will be a little harder to do if you have the tranny attached.
You can use a pry bar under the front wheels to slide it inch by inch for front to rear adjustment if you don't hit the motor mount exactly where you want it.

it's rather disconcerning when you realize you have enough weight to crush the front end, dangling by a chain over the car.

If the tranny is attached you will have to jack the car up conciderably to be able to swing the tailpiece.

I always remove a front wheel (car on jackstands) and come in from the side, using a "tilter"; have pulled/installed countless Corvette engine/transmission combinations this way (I pull/install all in one piece).

We ran into a similar problem, removing a tire (jackstand on lowest setting) - provided the clearance needed to easily remove the engine. We took the engine and tranny out at the same time. If you do this, just a word of caution.... either drain the tranny or get lots of rags... the end seal will leak all that thick gear oil! What a mess!!
