I just got my 75 stingray and it needs some work. Mainly breaks. What all do I need for a complete break job in the rear including E-break. Which brand is the best and where can I get it from. Not looking to spend toooo much on it. Also, which manual is the best? What about Haynes? Don't want the cheapest breaks nor the most expensive. Any suggestions. thanks

Let me sugget that if you are thinking of getting new calipers, go ahead and take one of the calipers apart and see if they are SS sleeved. If they are you can rebuild the calipers with Vette Brakes O-ring kit. I just rebuilt mine about 2 weeks ago and have got a nice firm pedal right at the top of pedal travel. I am impressed with thier kit, and to top it off it is an easy install.

You will need two of each kit to do all four calipers.

Don't waste your money on the Haynes manuals - they're very generic and not year-specific; buy the correct factory Chassis Service Manual for your year car - all the catalog houses have them.

Service manual

You mean the GM manual? Do you know of a good site I could get it from?

Different strokes for different folks...

The Haynes is cheap (inexpensive) and sometimes offers alternate ways of doing repairs that are easier than the Helms. At least in the case of my '96, it is also a lot easier to find the info I want quickly. I can sometimes spend an hour looking for the info I need in the Helms and can get to it in seconds in the Haynes.
Could be a different story for a '75 vette manual, I dunno.

I have both on my shelf for the '96 though and I always reach for the Haynes first for about any general repair. If It isn't specific enough then I plow into the Biblically thick and counterintuitively organized Helms manual.

Not tryin' to stir it up,
Just a different take on it... :cool

good luck

The most important thing you can do while overhauling your brakes is to check for rotor run-out. Runout will kill any caliper, doesn't matter if it's o-ringed, stainless, or whatever. Runout can be caused by warped rotors or bent spindles. Be careful of the imported rotors if you are replacing them.
