Has anyone ever replaced speakers in a 76 Vette, I guess mine are 28 years old and they don't sound to good. Just trying to figure out how to get to them. Thanks for any info.

they are in the upper dash pad, not my favorite job but do able, you may be able to get to them by removing each dash side

Will the 'removing each dash side' method work, has anyone done this?

76 Vette Speakers

I recently had to replace the Dash speakers in my 76 with two 4x6" pioneer speakers from Circuit City. To get access to them I removed the top Dash (the speakers are attched to it). The top dash is a snug fit and I had to remove the side pillar trim and the right (passenger) side dash panel to get it out of the car. Once the dash is out the job is simple. Just make sure that when you hook up the new speakers that you observe the polarity otherwise the speakers will be out of phase.

Thanks for the reply Tom102, which screws did you remove to get the dash out, is it the 5 or 6 that run directly below it? Also, are the stock speakers 4x6 or did you have to do some altering to fit them. Thanks again for your help.

I'm in the same situation. What about the speakers in the kick panels?

The stock speaker size is 4x6 the screws are the the 5 or six that attach the lower dash panels to the top panel ( there are also two screws that hold the top of the gauge bezel to the top dash) , they are located by the a/c vent on the top of your gauge bezel. After you remove the right side lower dash panel from the car you will see a "L" shaped bracket that secures the top dash to the forward firewall, it is held in with a screw also if memory serves me right it is located to the left of the amp. I dont have any speakers in my kick panels, just on the top dash. This sounds a little complicated but it really isnt. Hope this helps.

Tom, Thanks for the reply this will help and Circuit City has the Pioneer 4 x 6 speakers on sale for 44.99.

Thats about what I paid for the speakers, they sound good, certainly lot better than the old ones that I took out but my original ones were rotted and falling apart.
