78 auto to 4 spd conversion???

i have a 78 pace car and am seriously considering converting from auto to 4sp. other than parts (trans, pedal assembly, clutch hydraulics, etc) what are the problems and pitfalls?? is it worth the $$ and work when it is all said and done. replacing the car isn't an option in my mind as i have done a lot of work to this car (not even 1/2 finished, but it is almost all cosmetically done on the exterior) and would like to hang onto it.

i would appreciate any help and guidence including honest opinions as to how crazy i might be!!
