Question: 78 cpe Kilometer per hr, odometer kilo or mph

We just purchased a 78 cpe built in St. Louis (according to vin) speedometer is in kilometers - primary with mph underneath. Question is the odometer reading kph or mph.

Car was in Canada until 2003 and then crossed border.

If the primary indication is kilometers per hour, the odometer will likely be in kilometers. The quickest way to confirm this is to take the car for a drive. 5 miles is roughly 8 kilometers.

Canada's worst Prime Minister (our equivalent to President), Pierre Elliott Trudeau, began mandating the metric system in Canada in 1970. Speedometers and odometers weren't the first things changed. My 73 has only miles on the meters... but my parent's 76 Impala had the dual markings with the primary being kilometers per hour and the odometer was in kms.

Did I mention Obama reminds me of Trudeau?

All '78 Corvettes built for Canada measure distance on the odometer in KMs only. The dual scale on the speedometer is simply for driver convenience when travelling in non-Metric countries like the US.

Just wondering.... When the Corvette had to go to the Federally mandated 85 MPH speedometer, how did that affect the export cars that had speedometers that read in KM.

That silly law never applied to Canada or anywhere else in the world.
