Recently got a 79 L82 w/4 speed. Have the engine out for overhaul. Can someone tell me how to determine if the trans is close ratio or regular. This question is probably asked a lot but I could not find any thing with a search. thanks - Bob Herr

Thank you for the quick reply. Mine is stamped WH 382 which I presume means its a wide ratio.Don't suppose you happen to know what this ratio is? - bob

Thanks again for a quick reply. You called it right. The WH382 code is on the left side rear of the case behind the shift lever plate. The VIN # is also there even though the assembly manual I have shows it should be on a little rectangular boss on the right top of the tranny. The only other marking I can find is a 67 which is stamped on the top of that boss. No UK or UH anywhere to be found. I even PSI washed the unit and put my reading glasses on. - Bob

No problem!!! Will definitely spring for several brewskis. If you are ever in the hinterlands of the Midwest look me up. Located about 75 miles SE of St. Louis,MO. Will let you know what I find. Will be a few days. Waiting on some new seals for the cover. - Bob
