79 Corvette, Signal arm and switch

I have a 79 corvette that the signal arm came loose and is now hanging by the electrical wire. Can anyone help with where to purchase a replacement and also how difficult it is to change, The steering wheel is tilt and telescoping type.

The lever is available through DocRebuild but you don't want to know the price. If you go to his web site and on page 182 there is a picture of it . I had the same problem last year on one of mine and was never able to find a new one. They break at the weakest place where the lever and the attatching point are mated.If you look at the picture you will see it does not thread into the column but appears to snap in with a small spring loaded ball. Looks like the column will have to come apart to get at the broken piece.

the column definitely needs to be disassembled to replace the lever. the key, however is to make certain to attach a thin wire or a piece of high strength twine to the cruise control wire harness that you will pull back up through the bottom of the column when you remove the lever. if you don't do this, you will have one hell of a time trying to snake the new cruise harness back down the column. i would also suggest (unless you already have them) to visit your local autozone parts store and spend the 20 or so dollars for a steering wheel puller (about 10 bucks and the spring compressor to remove the ignition lock shielding (about 12 bucks). it will make life a whole bunch easier.

79 signal arm replacement

Has anyone ever changed one of these units?? If so, any details I should know. Is there any way to re-attach the broken arm back into the oriinal location?? I have tried JB Weld with no success.
