I'm here, away from my Corvette for the time being, and my father is kind enough to do a few "little" projects on her while I'm away and he is now into the 8-track. He was reading the Service manual and he said that it was getting at a sort of "external adjustment" for the speed of the player, so that he wouldn't have to remove the whole 8-track player.

Any ideas on this? '78

Uncle Sam needs to get me a couple more pretty pennies for me to get that. ;) But I see that in the future definitely. Would just like to get the 8-track working for now. Got some good 8-tracks too. :D

I'm going WAY back in memory here and giving away my age but if i remember correctly there was a small adjustment hole on 8-tracks to adjust the motor speed of the tape drive mechanism.

While you play a tape you can adjust the speed of the drive motor ( remember these were belt driven drives, yea that's right belts boys!!) to make the motor faster or slower depending on which way it needs to go, preference I guess, you could make everything sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks ;LOL

I have to agree with the CD option.............sounds like a GREAT Christmas present. ;)

"Goingballastic" is correct; there is a small hole in which to insert a screw driver to make adjustments. Sometimes the access hole is on the side of the unit; othertimes it is on the top.

Normally, no adjustments have to be made to the unit due to its design, even though it is belt driven.

For those of you that remember 8 tracks, if your memory has not failed you completely, you may also be able to recall 4 track units! No, I did not have a 4 track--but alot of my friends did.

Don't forget the folded matchbook cover wedged under the tape so it will play correctly.

Tried that. Didn't help at all.
