Was there ever an option for an am/fm 8 track in the c3?

CS

With the redesigned interior (console in 77) in 78, Chevy started offering more radio options. The 8 track was made available in '77 and continued as an option until 82. A CB came along in 78 and the cassette came out in 79. All continued through 82 procudtion.

I wonder where I might find one that works?

Well crap! :mad I was haviing a nostalga flash back of high school and thought it would be cool if I put one in the car. There is an endless supply of tapes on ebay. Oh well.

I have an 8-track in my '78. I am actually looking to buy 8-tracks to play in her. I'm keeping it in, too. The originality is the most important thing to me. :)

While we're on this topic...

Anybody know somebody respectable that I could ship my AM/FM 8-track to for repair/restoration. The radio works well, but the 8-track doesn't.

Stallion - sounds like a good time to get acquainted with e-bay if you aren't already. If you're taking requests I would like to hear some Beach Boys and Gloria Gaynor...anything but Joan Baez.

However, if originality is important to you then... http://home.earthlink.net/~yellowbrickroad/1978.htm

<singing> I should have changed that stupid lock, I should have made you leave the key, if I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me. Oh yes and I, I will survive, as long as I have love to give I know I'll be alive...

I was able to get a radio for my '78 through a junkyard. As far as I know, the AM/FM/8-track for the '77+ vettes is not a specific item. A few years back it only cost me $50. Might be worth a try to find one.

It's a good thing they died.;)

I had a terrible flashback. Back in the 70's while driving, the 8 track #$@#ed up and I remember pulling the cartridge out and reams of tape everywhere, blowing out the window, in my face, what a mess.

May that format remain dead.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Sorry to ramble.

My 81 has an AM/FM 8 Track they also came with option of CB. Could you imagine a CB unreal. My Mother has 8 track tapes guess I could try them out. Just afraid they may be to dry and snap in there. I would like to here Elvis Or Frank sinatra singing.:_rock

That's what I'm afraid of. If it's dried up it could be a mess. :eek

It could get ugly....:bash Are we ready for one more headache on our Vettes?

I'm still trying to decide:

1 - fix the factory 8-track
2 - put in the Custom Autosound USA-5 or 6 classic look modern digital radio with a CD changer

Too bad Custom Autosound doesn't make the USA-5 with an 8-track in the dash instead of the cassette. Then I could have the classic novelty of an 8-track once in a while, and still have a CD changer in the back controlled by the classic looking radio. Does anybody know if someone makes such a creature. If so, I haven't found it yet.

Culprit, You may want to ask 82Guy he may have an answer for you.

:w Janine

I hear good things about Custom AutoSound. If you are terribly worried about stock, then I would do it. Also, that is reversible, so if you ever decide to go back, or another direction, you will be fine, me thinks.

Good luck! :)

Thanks 81kix, I'll do that.

Now the question is, will 82Guy be checking the CAC from Hershey this week? I won't hold my breath - I'm sure he's going to be a busy man till Thursday - but I'll get a hold of him when he gets back.

"Guy 82 where are you?"
