81 Corvette door handle

For about the last year I have had problems with the passenger door handle. It doesn't lock with the automatic door lock, so I have to walk around & lock that door with the key.
THEN on the weekend my husband was inside & when he closed the door he pulled the door handle off the door (a small white plastic part inside the handle broke but the remainder is intact).

Can I just order a new handle or does the entire door assembly need to be replaced?
I am in Canada, is there anywhere in Canada that you can suggest I call?

i have a 1980 corvette and i believe the 81 is about the same. you can order the door handle from Ecklers,Corvette america,etc

There is nothing wrong with the actual arm rest (it's just come apart from the door panel because that small white plastic part that holds it to the door, broke). Can I just order that small what plastic part or do I have to order the entire door assembly kit?

so it's a plastic clip. not a metal clip.?

Yes it's plastic.
It's a small white plastic piece that fits between the arm rest (at the front of the armrest - closets to the windshield) and the door.

Looked in ecklers and they list no plastic piece for it.

So maybe I'm going to have to buy the entire door handle assembly ?

Not sure if this is your exact problem, but I had a similiar situation and repaired with Ecklers Part# A5320 '1978-82 Armrest Repair Kit'. $5.99
