I'm planning on putting that tue dual exhaust from mid america on my 81. I just read from CorvetteFAQ.com that the aluminized version doesn't rust, so my question becomes is it worth paying the extra 50 bucks for stainless? I'm hoping that I wont have to replace the exhaust again in my lifetime (or at least for a LONG time). Does anyone have any kind of opinion on this? Thanks for any help!

My $.02- I went with the stainless. My thinking was I am going to the trouble of this job might as well spring for the extra $ and get the best possible. However,my buddy who has his own vette repair shop has put on several of those aluminized systems with no problems.

re:

Yeah I figured the extra 50 bucks would be worth it, I don't drive it untill the roads are swept and it rains, to make sure all the salt is gone, but since I can't keep it in a heated garage (don't have one can't affored to store it someplace else) stainless is probably the way I'm going to go. Just wondering what you guys thought.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Chris,

My 3" stainless I put on 15 years ago are still in fantastic shape. YES!!! It's worth the money.

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time and during that time you store it a lot then the stainless is worth the extra. The aluminised exhausts have a reasonable life span but only if the car is used on a regular basis. The only thing to watch out for is that there are some cheap low grade stainless exhausts on offer that will eventually corode, try and get one that is made from 316 grade, more expensive but it should last longer than you or the car.

I have just had to take off a Mid America dual exhaust that had rusted out and the car has only done about 6000 miles in the four years I have owned it.

Yeah but I'm in college.. so I have no money! every penny counts!
Thanks for the input guys! Looks like I'll keep my original plan and go with the stainless.

I had an 81 and did that very thing. The stainless steel gets to hot.So I went with the other offered by Mid America. Your gonna love the sound and the power. You will have to take your air tube out and it's best to take all of the brackets and sheilds as you won't be as hot heat wise. Take your A.I.R. pump off to0 and get a little more power. I used stock mufflers too. Have fun !!!!!!

On a Vette engine, are there two exaust heads/valves or just one per cylinder? And with the intake, I assume the numbers are parallel for equal flow and equiv. power.

Just a quick question, thanks. :D

Is this a trick question.... if it is hears my answer.... whats the question..... You have 4 exhaust ports on the side to the exhaust manifolds and 4 intake ports on the top for the intake. It is the same on both sides since 1955 when God created the small block. You know I don't think I know what the question was?

Hmm...I think you might have answered it, but I'm not sure. Let's see if I can explain it more clearly...

On each cylinder there is, of course, intake port(s) and exaust port(s) where the the valve lays on the head. That's my understanding. But, on the Vette engine, how many exaust (and intake) ports are there for each cylinder?

Just re-reading your post, I think you answered my quesiton. On the v8 there are, in total 8 intake and 8 exaust ports which answers my question to be 1 intake and 1 exaust port on each cylinder...I think. :D

You are right as rain. I hope I didn't confuse you.I have sniffed a lot of resin in my time. I now suffer from old timers .
