The rubber front spoiler and metal support are bent and cracked. I would like to just take it off, but I was wondering if it was needed to help cool the radiator or support the front area. The car still looks good without it.

Short Answer ;)
Yes
Yes
:chuckle

A buddy of mine ran his 1980 without the rubber and I ended up doing a little glass work to keep everything together. As I recall the there are 3 major piece up under there on on each side then the one in the middle and the then the metal strip holding the rubber and tying everything together...

If it was hot out and we were booking down the road he would heat up to over 225 ;)...

If it's the original plastic spoiler you can probably fix it. I was able to fix mine with countersunk pop rivets an aluminum backer strip and some JB weld epoxy. Looks just like new.:thumb
